Lectors

“Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to preaching and teaching.”

– 1 Timothy 4:13

Lectors proclaim the Word of God in the first two scripture readings of the Mass and in so doing, exercise a genuine liturgical function. Speaking of lectors at the Liturgy, Vatican II said, “They ought to discharge their office with the sincere piety and decorum demanded by so exalted a ministry… Christ is present in His Word since it is He Himself who speaks when the Holy Scriptures are read in the church.”

How To Participate
Proclaiming the Sacred Scripture is different from other kinds of public speaking. Lectors need to be effective communicators, able to stand before the congregation and proclaim the readings in a clear, articulate, well-modulated voice with proper enunciation and pronunciation. Equally important, lectors need to absorb and express the spirit of the liturgy so that the Word of God is heard and understood by the congregation.

Anyone interested in participating as a Lector should contact Deacon Andy Fatovic for more information.
